Death of Former Sullivan Man Due To Heart Attack--Funeral on Tuesday

Israel Fair, aged 75 years, formerly of Sullivan, was found dead in bed at 7:30 o'clock Sunday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ira Shank, 314 East Eighth street. Mr. Fair had been suffering with heart trouble the past three years. Following the death of his wife five years ago at Sullivan Mr. Fair spent much of his time with his children. Only three weeks ago he came to this city, as a guest at the home of his daughter, from Sullivan where he had been living with his son Harley Fair. Previous to living with his son the deceased lived for sometime his daughter, Mrs. I. J. Bruce at Ruggles.

Mr. Fair was born November 27, 1849, in Holmes county and came to this county when a boy. He spent the greater part of his life on a farm near Sullivan. He was a member of the Congregational church at Sullivan. Four years ago Mr. Fair retired from government service at Sullivan where he had been employed as rural mail carrier, the previous seventeen years.

Mr. Fair was preceded in death by one child in infancy and by his wife five years ago; also by two brothers and one sister. He leaves to mourn their loss four daughters and two sons, whose names have been given, according to age as follows: Mrs. Carl Vermilya at Mansfield; Mrs. I. J. Bruce at Sullivan; Wilson Fair who resides east of Ashland on the Middle Rowsburg road; Mrs. R. M. Sprague on the Wooster road east of Ashland; Mrs. Ira Shank of E. Eighth street and Harley Fair at Sullivan. There are nine grandchildren an one great grandchild.

The deceased is also survived by one sister Mrs. Ella Keener who resides east of Ashland on a farm near the Middle Rowsburg road, and three brothers, George Fair of New London, James Fair at Ruggles and Harvey Fair of Cottage street of this city.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday forenoon. Arrangements have been made to meet at 9:30 o'clock Tuesday morning at the Ira Shank home at 314 East Eighth street where short services will be held.

Regular services at 11 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Congregational church at Sullivan will be conducted by Rev. N. W. Bates of Sullivan who will assisted by Rev. J. H. Armstrong of this city. Burial will be made in Sullivan cemetery.

At the Congregational church Tuesday at 11 o'clock, funeral services were held for Israel Fair, whose body was brought from Ashland, where a short service was heldat the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ira Shank. Rev. Newton Bates and Rev. Armstrong were in charge and the services were attended by a very large number of sorrowing friends as he numbered them by the hundreds, he being a servant of the government for 17 years. On retiring from service he turned the duities over to Leroy Taylor. At that time there was held for him at his farm home by his numberless friends a reception, one of the largest gatherings of its kind ever held in the county. Friends attended from all surrounding towns, to go with him to the brink of of the grave, most lovely of flowers were given from friends. Those whom he served in one accord contributed to the purchase of a beautiful floral piece. He was laid to rest by the side of his second wife, his first wife, who was Miss Eliza Gordon, being buried in Savannah. Sympathy is extended the sons and daughters, grandchildren in this their sad hour.
