On April 8, 1903, he married Rachel Ellen Olson, the daughter of Niels and Matilda Johanson Olson. She was born in Millville on October 27, 1885, and was involved in LDS Church and school activities in her youth.
In 1911, the family moved to what is now Nibley where Alma farmed and raised all kinds of fruit and vegetables. Rachel died May 26, 1915, leaving five children, including a five-week-old baby.
On December I, 1915, Alma married Mary ‘May' Baker in the Salt Lake Temple. May was born May 31, 1889, in Mendon, Utah, the daughter of Samuel and Ann Eliza Leavitt Baker. As a child, she moved with her family to Cardston, Alberta, Canada. She returned to Logan and graduated from Brigham Young College in 1913 with a degree in Nursing from Budge Memorial Hospital.
Alma and May raised his five children and five more of their own. Alma was severely injured in 1936 when his neck was broken in a fall from a wagon. The faith and prayers of his family and the ward were credited with saving his life, but his boys had to quit school to run the farm. Alma and May held many LDS Church positions. Alma served in the first Bishopric of the Nibley Ward. He and May donated a flag pole erected at the old Nibley Church in honor of their son, Grant, and Ballard Yeates, also of Nibley, who lost their lives during World War II.
Children of Alma and Rachel are: LaVon, Marnus (Jack), LaDell, Violet, Sevona and Lafaye.
