Obituaries: Asheville Area (NC) - May 3, 2008

Asheville -- Edie, daughter of Laura and Tom Burke and sister of Jack and Liza [Eliza Grace "Liza" Burke (2001-2023)], passed away during her sleep early Friday morning. She was a courageous, charming girl born with Hurler's Syndrome/MPS1. Although her years were short, her blessings were many. Among our many memories of Edie are: her gracious acceptance of life's limitations, her delight in the sounds of genuine laughter, her devotion to Barney and many TV friends, her ability to captivate us with her sensitive eyes, and countless moments of joy marked by her endless toothy smile and hearty laugh. We remember the sweet peaceful feeling of holding her in our arms so near to our heart. In addition to her parents and brother and sister, Edie is survived by maternal grandparents, Kitty Sprinkle McKeithen, of Asheville, Loy and Susan McKeithen, of Charlotte; paternal grandparents, Martha and Denny Burke, Rapid City, S.D., and aunts and uncles, great aunts and uncles, and numerous first cousins. She will be missed by her caring and supportive neighborhood and school families as well as friends and relatives in Asheville and beyond. An intimate visitation is scheduled at her home Saturday evening
