Children at home included Robert, age 22 (b in IL Sept. 1877); Edward 16 (b in IL April 1884); Mary C., 12 (b in IL June 1887); & James F., 10 (b in IL March 1890). David farmed to support the family.

Other members of the family included their daughter-in-law,
Dely P. Raker, age 19 (b in IL July 1880, the wife of Robert (listed above). They was the first year of their marriage. A boarder, William Snider, age 16 (b in TN July 1883), helped with the work on the farm.
