Opp Woman, 88, Claimed By Death

It was with sadness, that news spread Saturday morning of the death of Mrs. A. P. (Vinnie) Day, who had been ill for several years and whose physical condition had been serious for several weeks. Death came about 3:35 A.M. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C. K. Andrews, at Samford, where she had resided for the past twenty years.

Mrs. Day had spent her entire life span of 88 years in Covington County, having been born and reared between Horn Hill and Hickory Grove. She was the daughter of John Woodham and Amanda Ard Woodham and a part of one of Covington County's largest families - the Woodhams.

The deceased lived an upright christian life and in her earlier years was active in any phase of betterment for her community. Her's was an enviable personality with a pleasant smile and always a thought for the welfare of others, which endeared her to a host of acquaintances, far and near, who are deeply grieved at her passing. In a summary of her life it might be truthfully said, "She was a devout christian, a loyal wife and a devoted mother."

Funeral services were held Sunday at 3:00 P.M. at Bethel Church, on the Andalusia highway, with Rev. C. W. Cross officiating. The deceased had been a member of the Primitive Baptist Church since a young woman. Music was rendered by a selected choir and interment was in the church cemetery beside her late husband, Ambrous Day, who preceded her in death by over twenty years.

Serving as active pallbearers were Wilson, McKinley, A. P., Albert and Gerald Day, Grady Davis, Bascom Alsabrooks, Earl and David Boles, grandsons of the deceased. Honorary pallbearers included Mrs. Jim Woodham, Mrs. Noah Woodham, Mrs. Mallie Woodham, Mrs. Taylor Woodham, and Mrs. A. T. Woodham, sister-in-law to her. Flower bearers were Mrs. Lily Watson, Mrs. Lillian Smith, Mrs. Clyde Posey, Mrs. Eva Mooney, Mrs. Lessie Kilpatrick, Mrs. Mary Wiggins, Miss Mary Day, Miss Sara Day, Miss Ruby Andrews and Miss Ruth Andrews.

Survivors are three sons, Eli Day, Opp; Levi Day, St. Petersburg, Fla. and J. A. Day, Columbus, Ga.; seven daughters, Mrs. G.W. Davis, Lockhart, Ala.; Mrs. H. H. Alsabrooks, Andalusia, Rt. 3; Mrs. Anna West, Lucedale, Miss.; Mrs. J. J. Pope, Andalusia; Mrs. B. M. Boles, Andalusia; Mrs. G. E. Andrews, Sanford, and Mrs. I. D.
