He was born in Alexander County August 25, 1914, the son of the late Johnnie Boston Harrington and Ida Wike Harrington. He had been an employee of Hickory Chair and had retired from Harrington Citgo Service Station, which he owned and operated. A member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, he had served as Sunday School Superinten-dent for several years, as a choir member, and also had been involved in other church activities as needed. He had also provided transportation for shut-ins and was a recipient of a service award from Alexander County Meals on Wheels. Mr. Harrington was very fond of gospel music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Lois Loudermelk Harrington, Connie Poore Harrington, Dora Bell Jolly Harrington, and Pauline James Harrington; a son, Jimmy Harrington; two sisters, Ruth H. Wike and Madeline Harrington; and three brothers, Albert Harrington, Edgar Harrington and Millard Harrington.
Survivors include five daughters, Betty H. Tedder, Lana H. Davidson, Connie H. Steelman, and Brenda H. Kanipe, all of Taylorsville, and Dawn H. Pless and husband Michael, of Conover; two sons, Billy Harrington and wife Thelma, of Taylorsville and Darrel Harrington and wife Agnes of Stony Point; a sister, Dorothy Harrington Wike of Taylorsville; a brother, Gerald Harrington and wife Margaret of Taylorsville; two step-daughters, June Crouch of Hiddenite and Judy Roberts of Catawba County; twenty-two grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren, and eight step-great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 17, 2007, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Cecil Lovelace officiating. Burial followed in the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery.
