The death notice mentions his uncle, James T. Riley and his brothers, Alfred M. Riley and William Riley. William Riley was actually his younger half-brother from his father's third marriage to Susan Mockabee/Mockerbee.
The death notice also mentions James Madison Riley moved to St. Louis about 1849 from Clay County, Missouri.
James Madison Riley was 73 years old at the time of his death.
