He married Della Ray Hersey on Aug 16, 1924. They had 2 children together, Greta Barnard, born about 1926, and Ellis "Buddy " Barnard, born Dec. 16, 1927. Della died in 1932 at age 22. She is buried at Liberty Baptist Church in Ware Co. GA. Their son Ellis died in 1973 and is buried next to his mother.
Following the death of his first wife Della, David L Barnard married Maddie Griffis ( 1913- 1973) To this marriage was born 8 children.
