Vandergrift
Leon Barnett, 83, of Vandergrift, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, in the West Haven Nursing Home, Washington Township. He was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Vandergrift, the son of the late Daniel H. and Verda Sherry Barnett and had lived in the area all of his life. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps, having served during World War II. He had been employed by United Engineering and Foundry, Vandergrift plant, working on the chipping floor. Survivors include his son, Michael (Debbie) Barnett, of Oklahoma Borough; daughter, Kathy (Ron) Jackson, of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren, Keith, Kevin, Paula, Jessica and Amy; four great-grandchildren, Cara, Brandon, Nathan and Aaron; and brother, Harry Barnett, of Washington Township. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Paterson Barnett; two brothers, James and Paul Barnett; and a sister, Lois Jean Vetro. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME, Vandergrift, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Keith Deckinger officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Apollo.
