On June 6, 1900 he was married to Emma Krehbiel of Donnelson, Iowa, by Rev. Jacob Hege of Paso Robles, Cal. In 1901 they accepted a call to come back to Mountain Lake, Minnesota, where Henry preached and taught school again for two years.
In 1903 he was offered the principalship of the new school at Freeman, South Dakota. He with Dr. John R. Thierstein developed this school as it became the Freeman Junior College. In 1910 - 1911 Bachmann's services as head of the school ended by his failing health. In 1915 the family moved to California. However, Bachmann's health did not improve there, and he died on August 5, 1920 and was laid to rest in the Reedley cemetery.
The Bachmann's first son was born at Mountain Lake and died when four weeks old. Three more children (Paula, Esther and Henry Jr.) were born while the family lived at Freeman, South Dakota. Mrs. Bachmann died on December 15, 1965 at Woodlake, California, at age of 94, and was laid to rest beside her husband in the Reedley cemetery.
