Born August 23, 1920, in Manchester, MD, she was a daughter of the late Jerry and Georgia (Hann) Henry.
Frances was employed with Windsor Shoe Co., Littlestown, prior to retiring after 25 years of service.
She enjoyed reading, playing cards, and traveling with her husband, Wilbur. They visited every state in the Continental U.S.A. and Alaska. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Her survivors include five children, Robert Rippeon and wife, Mary of Littlestown, Patricia Wolfe and husband, Bradford of Hanover, Luanna Krumrine and husband, Bruce of Hanover, Jim Bowers and wife, Marilyn of Trout Run, and Ron Bowers and wife, Charlene of Watsontown; a sister, Ruth Dentler and husband, Bill of Dover; a stepbrother, William "Billy" Merryman of Hampstead, MD; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Lester; and two grandchildren, Robert Rippeon, Jr. and Sherry Austin.
A service to celebrate the life of Frances "Sis" Bowers will be held at 11 a.m. August 3, 2011, from the Wetzel Funeral Home, Hanover, with the Rev. Samuel A. Garrett officiating. Interment will be in Miller's United Methodist Cemetery, Manchester.
