Harold Eugene Ford, of Olpe, Kansas, died on January 31, 2006, at Newman Regional Health in Emporia, Kansas at the age of 78.

He was born on April 11, 1927, in Elk City, Kansas, the son of Ervin and Ada Ester (Goodwin) Ford. He was raised in Elk City and attended Elk City schools. After his schooling, Harold joined the Navy serving in WWII from April, 1945 to May, 1946. He was trained at Great Lake, Illinois, and served his country, on the U.S.S. Zebra and the U.S.S. LSM, with honor and dignity. After the war he worked at the air base in Independence, Kansas, later working for Safeway.

On April 2, 1952, he married Lillian “Lorraine” Nelson in Alva, Oklahoma. They lived in Stafford and Hutchinson before moving to California for 16 years. They came back to Eureka, in 1976 for a year before moving to Olpe where they owned Ford’s Grocery Store. They then retired in 1991.

Harold was member of the American Legion of Olpe Post# 0342.

He is survived by his daughter, ... and husband, ... of Oakton, Virginia; four grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Ada Ester Ford; wife, Lorraine Ford; two brothers, Willis Chandler, and Leroy Henry Ford; and five sisters, Mildred Playford, Ruby Henderson, Dorothy Johnson, Alma Harris, and June Samuels.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 6, 2006, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, in Eureka.

A memorial has been established in his name to the Olpe Lyons Club. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045.
