Hutcherson was born in Henry County on Jan. 15, 1947, to Nellie Marie Mize Hutcherson of Henry and John Silver Hutcherson. His father preceded him in death.
He graduated from Franklin County High School in 1965 and served with the Navy in Vietnam. He had worked at Nationwide Homes for more than 38 years.
He was a member of Freedom Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Mary B. Hutcherson of the home; two sons, Garland T. Oakes of Bassett and James D. Oakes of the home; two sisters, Patricia Winston of Henry and Susan Randall of Fort Defiance; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Chip Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
