Iris Irene Woods went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at the age of 75 from complications of Alzheimer's.

Iris was born on July 22, 1934, in Kite, Ga., to Maude and Tom Whitfield. She lived in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., from 1964 to 1975 where she raised her pride and joy, twin girls, Sherry and Sheryl. She moved back to Kite in 1975 and remained there until she moved to Destin, Fla., in 2006.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Jerry Dorminy. Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Dorminy and Sheryl Woods of Destin; sister, Virginia Smith of Bonaire, Ga.; and brothers, Tom (Ann) Whitfield of Harlem, Ga., and Billy Whitfield of Shorter, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at McLaughlin Mortuary.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 10, at 2 p.m. at Beal Memorial Cemetery.
