Forestport July 14- Shortly after 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, at his home in this village, occurred the death of Edwin Turner from an ill ness of less than two weeks with pneumonia. Mr. Turner was born in Turin. March 27, 1840. His early boyhood was spent In Turin. Later he removed with his family to Lyons Falls, where he lived until he came to Forestport 28 years ago. He had since resided here. In December, 1880, he was united in marriage to Alice Puffer, and of this union were born two sons, Harry, who is now 18 years of age, and Warren, who is 14, and who with their mother survive and were with Mr. Turner when be passed away. Two brothers and two sisters also survive. They are Frank of Collinsville, Lafayette or Lowville, who is a helpless invalid and blind; Alice of Greig, who was also with her brother when the end came, and Mrs. at W. Brown, also of Greig. Mr. Turner was a veteran of the Civil War enlisting on the 25th day of August, 1863, in Company I, 20th Regiment, New York Volunteer Cavalry. He was in several engagements and continued in the service until the war closed, being honorably discharged July 31, 1865. He served as a corporal under Capt. J. J. Carrol.
Mr. Turner was well known and highly respected in this community, always taking an active part in all affairs that could in any way benefit the town. At the time of his death he was overseer of the poor, which position he had held for some time. The funeral was held at 1:30 this afternoon at his late home and at 2 o'clock at the Methodist Church
