Larry E. Bemis, 60, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 28, 1948, in Brattleboro, Vt., to Elmer and Marion (Morse) Bemis. He married Glenda (Pond) Bemis on June 9, 1974, in Indianapolis, and she survives.
He was a welding foreman for CTP Corp. in Indianapolis for 33 years. Mr. Bemis had also been a certified welding instructor for Ivy Technical College in Indianapolis.
He was a 1966 graduate of Southport High School, attended Wabash College and was a graduate of Ivy Technical College in Indianapolis.
He was instrumental in developing an environmentally safe and welder-friendly procedure in the welding process.
He was an avid cyclist and had been involved with several Century bike rides for many years. He enjoyed photography and was referred to by his children as the paparazzi. He also loved his dogs, Lily Belle and Augie Beamer. He had been hardworking since his childhood, when he had a paper route. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, uncle and great-uncle to his family.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda (Pond) Bemis; a son, Ben E. Bemis and daughter-in-law Tina Bemis of Franklin; a granddaughter, Katie E. Bemis of Franklin; his mother, Marion (Morse) Bemis of Franklin; a sister, Susan Calabretta of Franklin; a niece, Kimberly Smith of Franklin; a nephew, Matt Smith of Franklin; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 U.S. 31 South (Morton Street) in Franklin. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery in Franklin.
