JOHN P WINNER II HOPEWELL, Va. John Parker Winner II, SFC, U.S. Army (retired), 81, of Hopewell, died Sept. 28, 2002, at the Hunter McGuire Veterans Hospital.

Born Sept. 29, 1920, in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Clinfton James and Raphael (Parker) Winner. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Verner, James and Ralph Winner; and three sisters, Dorothy Miller, Gertrude McKnight, and Margaret Moran. Mr. Winner was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, having received KSM with two bronze stars and the Good Conduct medal. He retired from the U.S. Army. Mr. Winner was also retired from the Defense General Supply Center in Bellwood. Mr. Winner was a member of St. James Parish.

Survivors include his wife, Angela (Spriggs) Winner; two sons, John P. Jack Winner III, Virginia Beach, and Joseph P. Winner Sr., Hopewell; two daughters, Nancy W. Seymour, Colonial Heights, and Susanne W. McDonald, Orlando, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Dolan, Cumberland, Md.; and two nephews, Albert Browning and wife Rae, Fort Ashby, W.Va., and Eugene Rowe and wife Connie, Cumberland.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James Kurtz, OFM, Cap., as celebrant.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the local combined veterans honor guard.
