Margaret Broadbent Merkley died Nov. 7, 2002 of causes incident to age.

Dr. Merkley vas born 1 September 1909 in Heber City, Utah, a daughter of David A. and Mima Murdock Broadbent. She married Charles N. Merkley of Tridell, Utah, 1 September 1933 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on September 18, 1977.

Margaret was reared in Heber City and graduated from Wasatch High School in 1927. She earned a BS Degree in Accounting and Business Administration from Brigham Young University, an MS Degree in Foods and Nutrition from Utah State University, and a PhD Degree in Foods and Nutrition from Texas University. She also attended Oregon State University.

Throughout her life, she was actively engaged in teaching High School and University students. She was a Professor at Utah State University, Associate Dean of extension for 15 years, and served as Supervisor of Home Economics Teachers for the State of Utah.

She served on the Governor's Advisory Board for Youth for five years; on the Advisory Board of the Utah State Department of Agriculture, the Utah State Department of Financial Institution, and the Utah Division of Aging.

Margaret was always an active member of the LDS Church; a Seminary teacher, officer and teacher in the MIA, Relief Society, Genealogy, Young Marrieds, Special Interest, and a member of the LDS Church Correlation Committee with special assignment of Curriculum for the Youth. She was also an officiator in the Saint George and Logan temples for many years.

Margaret traveled extensively throughout the world.

She is survived by three sisters - Mima B. Hicken (Don L.) of Heber, Sara B. Sorensen (Lynn) of Salt Lake City, and Helen B Jonsson (Jens) of Provo; and a brother Dr. Harvey M Broadbent (Louise) of Clearfield.

Funeral services will be held at The Allen Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center, Logan Utah, Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at 12 noon. Viewing will be held from 10-11:45 a.m. prior. Interment, Logan City Cemetery.
