John Yost (Johannes Jaussi)was born in Pery, Alsace France on the 23rd Feb 1812, but was baptised and brought up in his families home community of Wattenwil, Bern canton, Switzerland until the family immigrated in 1831 to New York state settling in Mayfield Fulton county. He was the son of John Yost snr (Johannes Jaussi) and Magdalena Moser. His mother died at Mayfield in 1848 and his father died at Mayfield after 1855.
