Michael Keith Albright, a former priest who left impact on North Vernon

Michael Keith Albright, 65, of Boise, Idaho, formerly of North Vernon, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, in Seattle, Wash., of heart complications.

A longtime resident of Redondo Beach, Calif., Mr. Albright had been living in Boise for a short period of time. He was a retired salesman for the steel industry and had formerly been a Roman Catholic priest, including serving three years at St. Mary's Church in North Vernon where he was known as Father Mike. Mr. Albright was very active with his son, Jon, in the Indian Guides program with the Pawnee tribe. Still known by many as Father Mike, he lived in the Redondo Beach-South Bay area for 30 years.

Born Aug. 13, 1943, in Bloomington, he was the son of Warren and Adele Albright who preceded him in death.

After graduating from Latin High School in Indianapolis in 1961, he graduated from St. Maur's College in Kentucky in 1965. He then entered St. Mary's Seminary in Indianapolis and graduated in 1969.

Mr. Albright was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on May 24, 1969, by Indianapolis Archbishop George Biskup. From 1970 to 1973, he was assistant pastor of St. Mary's in North Vernon. Mr. Albright left the active ministry in 1977.

In 1978, he married Dana Mills formerly of North Vernon.

He is survived by a son, Jonathan Thompson Albright of Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Elizabeth Albright of LaQuinta, Calif.; two grandsons, Dylan Thompson Albright and Bodhi Thompson Albright; two brothers Warren Albright of Scottsdale, Ariz; and David Albright of New Canaan, Conn.; and a sister, Sandra Albright of Milton, Mass.

A memorial Mass will be held at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Manhattan Beach, Calif., on Aug. 1, at 10 a.m. Private interment of ashes will follow at a later date. A reception will follow the memorial service at the home of John and Beverly Janus in Manhattan Beach.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Parish in North Vernon or the JC Family YMCA.
