Edith Nuttall joined the Army Nurse Corps in 1944 during World War II. She served overseas on the island of Guam as the assistant head nurse of the chest surgical ward in the Army Hospital there. She left the Army at the end of WWII, but returned to active duty in 1952 during the Korean War. She served at Letterman General Hospital, the Presidio at San Francisco, Stuttgart Germany and Madigan General Hospital at Fort Lewis Washington. Subsequent assignments took her to Fort Polk LA, Fort Campbell Kentucky and Brooke General Hospital in San Antonio Texas. Colonel Nuttall served two years in the early 60s in Tehran Iran. During the Vietnam War Colonel Nuttall served as the Chief Nurse of the 3rd Field Hospital in Saigon. She then returned to Letterman General Hospital and served assignments at Walter Reed Army Hospital and at the Office of the Surgeon General in Washington DC. Her last assignment was as as assistant chief of the Army Nurse Corps from 1974-1978. Colonel Nuttall passed away in 1984.
