He also served in the State Militia, and on Aug. 11, 1864 at Wellsville, Missouri he enlisted as a private in Co. B, 49th Regular Infantry Volunteers under Capt. Stewart, and Col. D. P. Dyer. On Aug. 11, 1864, was promoted to First Lieutenant, and then he was promoted to Captain on March 22, 1865. He was mustered out on Aug. 2, 1865.
