Lillis Bannister, 92, of Abbeville, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at the Hospice House in Greenwood. She was born in Abbeville County to the late James D., Sr. & Nancy Lee Campbell Bannister. Ms. Bannister was a graduate of the Lowndesville High School and retired from the Abbeville Shirt Plant. She was a lifelong member of the Abbeville First Baptist Church where she was a member of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Bannister was preceded in death by three brothers, J.D. Bannister, Jr., Gamewell Bannister and Joseph Billy Bannister; two sisters, Azalee B. Rykard and Margie Cornelia Bannister.
She is survived by a brother, Fred T. Bannister and his wife Murrell P. of Abbeville; two sisters, Charlotte B. Smith of Abbeville and Harriett B. Cartledge and her husband Richard of Abbeville; many nieces, nephews and a host of extended family.
The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM Friday, June 5, 2009 at the Abbeville First Baptist Church. Funeral services will begin at 2:30 PM in the sanctuary with Rev. Wayne Wiggins officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions, in memory of Ms. Bannister, may be sent to Abbeville First Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 825, Abbeville, SC 29620.
The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cartledge on Noble Dr. in Abbeville.
