Uncle Clarence was born on a farm in Pymosa Twp., Cass County, IA the oldest son of two boys and four girls. About a year after the last child was born, his father migrated to Nebraska to build a home. The family settled there into what would be known as the North Place.

Clarence was a quiet young man, I think. I've never heard any stories about his youth. His father was found dead by his younger brother, Frank, in 1904. C.E. may have been working on the farm.

In June 1908, he married Effie O'Tellia Nelson in Wayne, NE which is about 15-18 miles from the North Place. Tillie and Clarence lived in Concord. In 1918, C.E. enlisted in the WWI draft. He spent much of his time farming, but between 1935 and 1939, the couple ran a restaurant in Concord.

They had three children; their son was born early in their marriage. Their two daughters were born fifteen years later. The youngest child died at age seven. The families settled near Allen in Dixon County. They are all buried in Concord Cemetery.
