Carpenter and chicken rancher. First husband of author Betty MacDonald; immortalized in her New York Times number one bestseller "The Egg And I" in 1945. During their four-year marriage, the couple operated an chicken farm on Washington's Olympic Peninsula, and their experiences provided the fodder for MacDonald's successful book. The couple separated in 1931 and divorced in 1935. Though their last name was never mentioned in the movie, Heskett's character was played by Fred MacMurray and Betty was played by Claudette Colbert in The Egg and I movie version. He and MacDonald were the parents of two daughters during their marriage. Heskett, who served in the United States Marine Corps during World War I, was killed in an fight in 1951.
