Went home to the Lord on August 10th, 2007, after a four year courageous battle with cancer. Shari was born August 15th, 1956 in Spokane, Washington to her beloved parents Paul and Gertrude (Toots) Layher. She loved the Lord all her life, and was a member of Deer Park Independent Church during her younger days, and most recently was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe, Washington. She attended Deer Park Schools all 12 years and graduated from Deer Park High School in 1974. Shari enjoyed many activities including cheerleading, band, and choir. She had a beautiful voice. She also attended Spokane Falls Community College, and Bellevue Community College. Shari was married to her beloved husband of 27 years, Robert H. Smith of Spokane, Washington on March 8th, 1980. Shari enjoyed the outdoors including camping, fishing, horseback riding, and vacation trips with her husband Bob. She even liked working on the farm with her dad, mom and sister. Other favorite activities were playing volleyball with friends and board games with nieces and nephews. Shari worked in the Records Management field, and was currently employed by Puget Sound Energy. She enjoyed her co-workers and problem solving; due to her advancing illness one of her greatest regrets was being unable to assist her co-workers in "Storm Duty" during the large windstorm that struck the Puget Sound Region. She is survived by her loving husband Bob and their two cats "Tank and Peanut"; her mother "Toots" Layher; sister Suzie and brother-in-law AndyChristopher; numerous nieces and nephews including Patty and her husband Jim Detro, Kaitlyn and Elizabeth Smith, Bill and his wife Nancy Nessly, Shane McFaddin, and Christian Smith; beloved in-laws Floyd, Carol, Stacey, and Mike Smith, alsoLisa and her husband Steven Taylor. She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Layher. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Breast Cancer Research or the charity of one's choice.
