ISABEL KATCHINOSKI Peacefully on July 2, 2009, Miss Isabel Katchinoski passed away at the age of 83. She was predeceased by her father Stephen and mother Mary, as well as her sisters Agatha and Emily and brother Kasimir. She is survived by her sister Phyllis Wayne in Winnipeg, brother Victor (Jean) of Austin, Texas and nieces, nephews and their families. Isabel was born February 27, 1926 in Souris, MB. Her father was a sectionman for CPR. She spent her early years and education in Dand, MB and the pioneer village Fannystelle. Her interest in music began at a very young age. She taught herself to tap by listing to the radio and was performing at the age of 6. She became friends with the postmistress Donalda Guilbault. She would go over and play her organ and have cookies. Alice Mollot was her piano teacher, mentor and friend. October 1943 at the age of 16 she received her Toronto Conservatory of Music Diploma. She was encouraged to become a Concert Pianist, but decided to pursue her passion for teaching. She then moved with her family to Winnipeg in 1954. Isabel was a devoted and loving daughter to her parents, caring and providing for them. Isabel taught piano in her home, educating many children, youth and adults in proper technique and the appreciation of fine music. It is a testament to her mentoring, each Christmas she received cards and letters from former students who expressed their appreciation to Isabel for her love of teaching and music education. Isabel was an active member of the congregation at St. Anthony of Padua Church in West Kildonan and played the organ for 50 years. The family wishes to express thanks to the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and dedication. Also thanks to the home care workers who were an enormous support. Above all, an exprssion of thanks and admiration is given to Jacqueline Kasper and family for the selfless dedication and devotion to the care of Isabel over the last 3 years. God bless you and your family. Isabel will be missed by family and many friends. Prayers and Love. Mass of a Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Burrin Avenue. Viewing to take place before the Mass.
