Mrs. Mayberry, age 102, of Huntersville, NC died Thursday, June 18, 2009. She was born on October 18, 1906 in Huntersville, NC, the daughter of the late James Francis Marion Knox and Anna Lavinia Caldwell Knox.

Mrs. Mayberry joined the Huntersville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church when she was a child and remained a lifelong member and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary # 321.

She was a graduate of East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. She earned a master's degree at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She worked in Florida before her marriage to Charles Franklin Mayberry on May 11, 1935. The years after her marriage were spent as a homemaker, caregiver, school cafeteria worker, real estate owner and investor.

Due to her loss of vision in 2001, Mrs. Mayberry lived at Morningside Assisted Living in Concord, NC until May, 2008. Her last year was spent at Olde Knox Commons in Huntersville, NC. Her family wished to thank the staff members at both facilities for the love and care they gave her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Mayberry was preceded in death by her sisters and brothers, Macie K. Huey, John Latta Knox, Rev. Law Pierce Knox, Lavinia K. King, Ferry K. Tinkham and Dorothy K Underwood.
Survivors left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Martha M. Rawdon and husband M.R. Rawdon of Concord, NC, Frances M. Garner and husband Larry W. Garner of Tyrone, GA and two wonderful granddaughters, Teresa Garner and Lisa Garner, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mayberry also had many wonderful friends who brightened her days.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Raymer Funeral Home on Monday June 22, 2009. Her funeral service will be at Huntersville Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church, 200 N Old Statesville Road, Huntersville, NC on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. David Winburne officiating. Mrs. Mayberry will lie in state at the church thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
