Doris Buckner

Doris Crain Buckner was born on December 11, 1921 on the family farm in western Oklahoma, to Charles and Ida Belle Daley Crain. She passed from this life on May 16, 2015 in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 93.

She attended several county schools up to and including the 8th grade. Doris married Joel Andrew Buckner on June 3, 1938, in Stilwell, Oklahoma at the age of 17, and they were happily married for 49 years.

She was a homemaker, who enjoyed hand-stitching quilts all of her life. She made them for her grandchildren as keepsakes, for friends and also made them available for sale. While she was raising her children, she sewed all of their clothes by hand.

During Joel’s Air Force career, he and Doris were transferred to numerous bases, including Waco, TX, Pensacola, FL, Shaw AFB, SC, Japan in 1962, where they celebrated their 25th anniversary, and finally retired at Amarillo, TX after serving 20 years.

She and Joel moved back to Stilwell in the mid 80’s where they lived until Joel’s death in 1987. At that juncture of her life, Doris moved to Wichita, KS to be near her daughter, Barbara.

Survivors include her children, Jerry Buckner and wife, Jill, of Sumter, SC, Catherine Turbeville and husband, Tommy, of Sumter, SC, Barbara Eli and husband, Henry, of Wichita, KS, Donald Buckner and wife, Sally, of Seattle, WA, Jimmy Buckner and wife, Sheryl, of Amarillo, TX. She is also survived by a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ida Belle Crain, her husband, Joel Buckner; one son, Jesse Buckner and one grandson, Gary Turbeville.

Funeral services are pending at Hart Funeral Home of Stilwell.
