CHARLES D. KASHNER, 86, of Fort Wayne, formerly of West Lafayette, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne. Born Nov. 10, 1922, in Lafayette, son of the late W.C. and Edith B. Pollman Kashner, he was a graduate of West Lafayette High School. He married Dorothy Mohler; she preceded him in death in 1998. He was a World War II veteran, enlisting in the U.S. Aircorp in 1942; Staff Sgt. Kashner was a tail gunner on a B17 Airplane that flew 25 bombardment missions over enemy-occupied continental Europe. He was awarded the Distinquished Flying Cross for his great courage and skill. He retired in 1986 from Allen County Motors in Fort Wayne. He was also an avid golfer, loved animals and was a good friend and neighbor. Burial in Rest Haven Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements by Hippensteel Funeral Home, Lafayette, Ind.
