Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Church of Christ for John Henry ANDERSON, long-time resident of Ochiltree county, who died Saturday at the Hansford Hospital in Spearman. He was 81 years old.
Mr. ANDERSON had operated farms on Ochiltree county since 1920. He retired and moved to Spearman about five years ago. He was a native of Grapevine, Texas and lived downstate until coming to Ochiltree county.
He was a member of the Church of Christ and the Masonic Lodge.
C. R. Atkinson and Doyle Banta conducted services at the Church of Christ Sunday afternoon. Pallbearers were Carl ELLIS, Claude SHEETS, Floyd CATES, Bruce SHEETS, Ray THOMAS, Carl HURTER, Galen MURPHY and Arthur MORGAN.
Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Lucy Irene ANDERSON; two sons, W. L. ANDERSON and R. Y. ANDERSON, both of Perryton; two daughters, Mrs. Lena JACKSON, Wellington and Mrs. A. L. JACKSON, Jr., Spearman; three brothers, T. J. ANDERSON, Las Cruces, NM, F. A. ANDERSON, Berkley, Calif., and C. F. ANDERSON, Hobbs, N. M.; two sisters, Mrs. M. F. BRUMLEY, Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Minnie YOUNG, Wichita Falls; 20 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Interment was in the Ochiltree cemetery.
John H. ANDERSON was born at Grapevine, Texas in Tarrant county, November13, 1868. His parents had lived in Montague county until a short time before his birth when they were forced to move to the Fort Worth area because of Comanche Indian depredations in Montague county.
Shortly after his birth, the family returned to Montague county settling at Forestburg where Mr. ANDERSON was reared.
He was married to Lucy Irene PRICE in her father’s home at Ardmore in Indian Territory on Sept, 17, 1890. The couple moved to Texas, where they lived two years before settling in the Southern Indian Territory where the family lived for seventeen years. Mr. ANDERSON engaged in the Mercantile and banking business there until 1909 when he moved to Wichita county, Texas where he engaged in farming for eight years. He engaged in ranching for three years in Terry county before moving to Ochiltree county, east of Perryton, in 1920. Mr. ANDERSON had passed through this area in 1903 and was greatly impressed with the country’s possibilities and had declared his intention of moving here later. He farmed in Ochiltree county until his retirement in 1945 when he moved to Spearman.
He was baptized in the Church of Christ in 1895, and was a member of the Perryton congregation for many years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Perryton.
