Dorothy Helen (Piper) O'Dell, 85, of Zeigler, Illinois, formerly of Marion, passed away at 9:40 a.m., Friday, July 03, 2009 at the Fountains Nursing Home in Marion.

Helen was born April 27, 1924 in Salem, Illinois to Arvie and Elsie (O'Dell) Mulvaney.

She married John Edward Piper. He survives in Marion. She married Kenneth O'Dell June of 1982 in Casey, Illinois. He preceded her in death May 7, 2009.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Virginia Piper of Belleville; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeannie and Dale Martin of Mulkeytown; a step-son and his wife, Bob and Diane O'Dell of Anna; six grandchildren, Stephanie (Matthew) Harrison of Poughkeepsie, NY, Patrick (Julina) Piper of Falls Church, VA, Sara (Michael) Vincent of Moline; Mandie (Jay) Bagwell of Herrin, Tara Martin of Monee, Gina (Greg) Risley of Zeigler and two step-grandchildren, Haley (Jeff) Cox of Mt. Vernon and Jadie (David) Thomas of Brentwood, TN; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita Combs of Carterville, Marjorie Cornwell of Zeigler; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Eva Mulvaney of Orem, UT.

Her parents and an infant brother, Lester Dale Mulvaney also preceded her in death.

Mrs. O'Dell attended the First Christian Church in Zeigler. She was a retired pharmacy technician who had worked at several Marion area pharmacies.

Funeral services for Mrs. O'Dell will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, July 7, 2009 at Vantrease Funeral Home in Zeigler with Brother Larry Hallman officiating. Burial will be at the Phillips Cemetery east of Kinmundy. Visiting hours are after 11:00 a.m., Sunday at the funeral home until the time of the services.
