Leo and Lydia Althaus owned and operated St. Cloud Roofing Company, of which my father was an employee for many years.
After Leo's passing, Lydia and her son Bobby took over the business.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at St. Mary's Cathedral Upper Church in St. Cloud for Lydia C. (Luethmers) Althaus age 95, of St. Cloud. Lydia passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany. Reverend Anthony Oelrich will officiate. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud.
Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Lydia was born on April 19, 1913 in St. Anthony, MN to John and Mary (Ostendorf) Luethmers. She married Leo Althaus on July 29, 1941 in St. Anthony, MN. In addition to being a homemaker, she assisted her husband, Leo, in running St. Cloud Roofing Company. Upon Leo's death in 1968, she and her son, Bob, continued running the business for many years.
Lydia was a long time member of St. Mary's Cathedral, St. Ann's Christian Mothers, Daughters of Isabella, and St. Margaret's Society at St. John Cantius. She was a volunteer at the Mission Store at St. Mary's Cathedral, Tri-Cap surplus food distribution, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in St. Cloud.
She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, bingo, fishing, and dancing (especially at the 1929 club). Lydia traveled widely, including trips to Europe, South America, and many parts of the United States. She treasured quality time with her family.
Survivors include her children, Don (Sharon) Althaus of Plymouth, LuAnn (Scoop) Reif of St. Cloud, Arlene (Art) Williams of Morgan Hill, CA; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister and brothers, Alma Gruber of Belgrade, Sylvester (Alice) of Freeport, and Melvin (Ortrud) of St. Cloud.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo in 1968; son, Bob in 2008; brothers and sisters, Al, Norbert, Edward, Mildred Lange, and Genevieve Luethmers.
