My Grandfather, James was a son of Rev. Basil and Fredericka Christena (Weidenhamer) Derry.

James Franklin Derry, was born 13 May 1870 in Ferris, Illinois, and died 17 August 1937 in Berwyn, Illinois. He married ALICE MAE REXROAT.
The information below was provided to me by James Frederick Derry (my 1st cousin), a grandson of James Franklin Derry, and forwarded to me by James' son, David Derry.

Born: Golden (Adams County), Illinois May 13, 1870
Father: Basil Derry (1820-1899)
Mother: Fredericka C. Weidenhamer (1829-1903)
First Marriage: Pennington Point (near Macomb), Illinois May 17, 1893
First Spouse: Alice Mae Rexroat (1869-1929) Date of marriage: 05/17/1893 License #: 00000683
Second Marriage: March 2, 1934
Second Spouse: Minogene Cartlidge
Buried: Berwyn, Illinois

"Frank", as he was often called, attended the Macomb Community College (now the University of Western Illinois) for four years. That is where he met Alice Mae Rexroat. The 1900 census has the family in Galesburg, (Knox County), Illinois, with J.F. working as a mail carrier. He subsequently had a photo studio in a nearby town.

About 1920, he was in an Army uniform at the Victory Arch in Newport News, Virginia. The family, however, was in Baxter Springs (Cherokee County), Kansas during 1916-1920, where J.F. was apparently based as a conductor for the Rock Island railroad.

He then joined the U.S. Treasury Department, Bureau of Industrial Alcohol, and served until 1935, when he retired. This job required frequent changes of duty stations, one of which was Berwyn, Illinois (1928-1929); another was Terre Haute, Indiana (1934).

Alice died in 1929. J.F. remarried March 2, 1934 to a widow, Minogene Cartlidge. J.F. is buried alongside Alice in a Berwyn cemetery, "at the south end of Oak Park Avenue."
