Businessman. Best known as manager of The Beatles following the death of Brian Epstein during the last year of the group's existence. Born in Newark, New Jersey, he spend his early childhood in an orphanage following the death of his mother. He would later live with his grandmother and aunt. He was educated at Upsala College and served a stint in the United States Army before he founded what was to be known as ABKCO during the late-1950's. Klein would quickly earn the reputation as a sly and overbearing businessman. Among the artists his firm would become associated with included Sam Cooke, Herman's Hermits and The Rolling Stones. John Lennon, who was impressed by Klein following a meeting in 1969 insisted he be brought in to take over as manager. However, Paul McCartney who wanted his father-in-law Lee Eastman for the task opposed Klein. Over the next several years legal battles would ensue. During the 1970's, Klein turned to producing and helped George Harrison arrange "The Concert for Bangladesh" in 1971. In 1978, he produced the motion picture "The Greek Tycoon".
