Actor, Opera Singer. He graduated from the Prague Conservatory of Music in 1945 and became one of the youngest bass opera singers at the Prague Opera House. In 1948 he relocated to Canada and became a founding member of the Canadian Opera Company. As an actor he had roles in numerous television shows including "The X Files", "Due South", and as a regular in the 1986 series "Kay O'Brien". He had several important character roles in motion pictures such as "Dead Of Winter", "Courage Mountain" and "One Magic Christmas". However, he is probably best known for his portrayal of Eli Lapp, the patriarch of the Amish family in the 1985 Harrison Ford motion picture "Witness".
