"Sowers, John C.: He was born in Winchester, Virginia in September of 1779 and died at Staunton, Virginia in September 1845. He was an enterprising and successful merchant, and was an Elder in the Presbyterian church for more than 30 years. He served as Captain and commanded Staunton's Artillery Company in the 32nd Virginia militia Regiment attached to the Battalion of Artillery of the Virginia militia.
