Obit: A. R. Loomis Dies at 48. Alvin R. Loomis, 48, of N. Long lake Road, Grand Traverse County, died Saturday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City after a long illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Reynolds funeral home in Traverse City. Rev. J. Bartram Shields and Rev. Jack Dilley officiating, with burial in Long Lake cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Loomis was born July 26, 1922, at Cedar Run, the son of Marion and Sadie Loomis, attended Greenbrier school, and was graduated from Traverse City High School in 1940.
A lifelong resident of the Long Lake area, he served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was employed by Darling Freight, Inc. prior to retiring in 1969 because of ill health.
On November 25, 1944 at Kalkaska he was married to Leila Tilton, who survives.
Also surviving are: a daughter, Sharon Loomis, of Traverse City; three sons, William of Traverse City, Edward of Detroit, and Thomas at home; two brothers, Joel of Traverse City and James of Toledo, O.; and a sister, mrs. Richard (Maxine) Courtade of Traverse City.
He was preceded in death hy a son, Kenneth, and his parents (A. R. Loomis Dies at 48, Traverse City Record Eagle, 19 October 1970, page 20, columns 1-2).
