Heyward Green

Heyward Green, former resident of Lexington, died Monday, February 4 at Riverside Medical Hospital in Franklinton, Louisiana. He was 76.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 5 at Crain Funeral Home with burial in Ellis Cemetery.

Mr. Green was a native of D’Lo. In 1929, he and his older brother John started what is now Green Brothers Gravel Co., based in Franklinton and Jackson. He was one of the early members of the Mississippi Roadbuilder’s Association and served as director of the National Sand and Gravel Association representing Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas.

He served on the board of directors of Washington Bank and Trust Company in Franklinton and was mayor of the city for four years. He was on the administrative board of Centenary United Methodist Church and was later active in Mississippi and Louisiana golf associations.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jerry Richardson Green of Franklinton; two sons, Heyward Carter Green of Jackson and John Barrett Green of Franklinton; and four grandchildren.
