Funeral services for Gustaf Freeburg, 72, East Euclid, who died at his home Saturday morning, were held yesterday afternoon from the Quiring Funeral home and from the Lutheran church of New Gottland. Rev. Gustaf Nyquist officiating.
Gustaf Freeburg was born on December 4, 1868 in N. Vanga, Skarsborg County in West Gottland, Sweden to Anders Magnusson and Annika Svensdotter. He became a member of the Swedish Lutheran church there and came to the United States, arriving at Boston June 24, 1887. Later in the same year he came to McPherson county, settling in the New Gottland community. He was married to Emily Erickson on December 6, 1890 and the couple resided there until August, 1939, when they moved to Lindsborg. Early last month they moved to McPherson.
Mr. Freeburg is survived by his widow; one brother, August Freeburg, McPherson; and 10 children, Edith Nordling, McPherson; Ellen Parsons, Burlington; Mildred Hill, McPherson; Sarah Coughenour, McPherson; Carol Perry, Newton; Rose Lee Freeburg, Tulsa; Martin Freeburg, Salina; Emil Freeburg, Yates Center, Walter Freeburg, McPherson and Virgil Freeburg, McPherson; 18 grand children and one great grandchild.
Mr. and Mrs. Freeburg celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary on Dec. 6, 1940 when all the children and many friends and relatives were present.
