Family was put first in Freddie's life, including his church family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and member of the church. He went above and beyond to do anything he could for his family. Freddie was not only a barber for 47 years, but also an active Christian who lead numerous people to the Lord while they sat in that chair. Cutting the hair of a United States President, Lyndon B. Johnson, was one of Freddie's proudest moments. For five years, Freddie proudly served as a Marine.
He was a role model to his customers, children, grandchildren and friends. Freddie always showed his faith for the Lord no matter the circumstances. Volunteering was one of Freddie's leading passions in life, selflessness is what Freddie practiced. Not only has he served as Sunday school superintendent at Zion Lutheran Church for 14 years, on the church council for 12, as a member of its building committee and as an usher, he also got up at 4 a.m. every Easter for 40 years to make breakfast for the congregation. He also served as Men's Brotherhood President for 2 years, 4-H club for 17 years, Lions Club, parent-teacher association president, scout master for 14 years and proudly volunteered at the Veterans Hospital for over 50 years giving free haircuts. Freddie was also a charter member of the Elks Lodge and held the honorable position of exalted ruler four times.
Survivors include wife, Peggy Anne of Kerrville; daughters, CeCe Jean (Billy) Saunders; sons, Doug and Ted Hannemann both of Kerrville; brothers, Hans (Dorothy) of Fredericksburg, Wally (Clarabel) of Fredericksburg, Gene (Margaret) of Sun City, CA and Auggie (Pauline) of Elgin; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 5, 2009, 3-6 PM at Grimes Funeral Chapels.
Services will be held Monday, July 6, 2009, 2 PM at Zion Lutheran Church officiated by Pastor Don Rahut. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Andy Simon, A.J. Raso, John Setnan, Jullius Poff, Kirk Storey, Rick Trzcinski, Mel Appell and Norman Bogner.
