Wedding Announcement

Last Saturday morning at 10:30 o'clock at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Barnesville, this county, Rev. George B. Harrington officiated at a nuptial mass following the marriage of Miss Martha Marie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Jones, of Dickerson, and Mr. John Bernard Offutt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Offutt, of Poolesville.

Mr. John B. Offutt, husband of Mrs. Marie Jones Offutt, who resided at 14 East Ninth St., died at his residence on Friday, March 14. He was born in Poolesville Dec. 28, 1889, the son of the late W. Jerome and Annie R. Jones Offutt, on a 535-acre farm and remained on the farm in the Poolesville District until he graduated from the Cedar Bend Public School.

He was employed in the Poolesville National Bank as assistant cashier for three years and then employed for one year in the Potomac National Bank, Washington, D.C. in 1912. In 1915 he was married and farmed in the Poolesville area until 1947. Mr. Offutt was employed for over 10 years as inspector for the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, Hyattsville. After his retirement in 1970, he was a Real Estate Broker in Frederick County.

Surviving besides his wife are the following children: Bernard L. Offutt, Woodsboro; W. Jerome Offut, Middletown; Linwood T. Offutt, Rt. 10, Frederick; Mrs. Marguerite O. Moxley, Rt. 4, Mt. Airy; John B. Offutt, Jr., Landover; Eugene J. Offutt, Walkersville; Mrs. Rosalie O. Fulks, Gaithersburg; Mrs. Mary O. Parry, Wheaton, one sister, Sr. M. Sulpice Offutt, Visitation Convent, Roland Park, Baltimore; 33 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Offutt was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society and a former member of the Frederick County Board of Realtors.

The family will receive friends at the Smith, Fadeley, Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, Sunday, March 16. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 17, at 10 a.m. from the St. John's School Auditorium, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Edward V. Echle, pastor of St. John's Catholic Church. The Rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Sunday evening, March 16 at 7:30 p.m.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers those desiring may make contributions in memory of Mr. Offutt to the St. John's Catholic Church Building Fund.

Interment will be in the Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville.
