Homer Enterprise Friday, February 7, 1964, page 1Homer - Funeral services for Rev. Bert M. Petty, 76, Sumner, former Methodist minister in East Central Illinois, who died Feb. 1 in an Olney Hospital, were conducted at 2 p.m. Feb. 1 at the Sumner Methodist Church with Rev. John Cox officiating. Burial was at Amity Cemetery, 4 miles northwest of Sumner.Rev. Petty was born Jan. 212, 1888, in German Township, Richmond County, son of Frank M. and Rose West Petty. His first wife, the former Kay Coquillette, preceded him in death.v. Petty was minister of the Homer Methodist Church from 1937 to 1946. He joined the Central Illinois Conference of the Methodist Church in 1920 and retired in 1953, moving to Sumner in 1953.June 1, 1953, he resigned his 6 year pastorship at the Mansfield Methodist church where he located after leaving Homer.In 1915 Rev. Petty began 38 years in the ministry with the church at Chauncey where he served 2 years. He served in Liberty Center, Ind., for 3 years. He returned to Illinois in 1920 and served at Westfield for 4 years; Mahomet, 5; Newman, 4; LeRoy, 4; and Homer, 10.Rev. Petty lived in Camargo and was pastor of the Camargo and Murdock churches since his semi-retirement from the Mansfield church. He resided at his present address for the past 7 years.Surviving are his widow, Ina; 2 sons, mason of Rt. 1, Claremont; and Lt. Col. Cecil E. of Washington, D. C.; one daughter, Mrs. Ellen Hendrix of Worth; 3 brothers, Ray of Charleston; Harry of Claremont and William of Antiock; 1 sister, Mrs. Ruby Erwin of Sumner.He was preceded in death by 1 sister.Transcribed by the Homer Historical Society
