James was born in Greene County, Missouri to James Monroe Rose and his wife Nancy Hannah Graves. He married Alice Everline Williams, July 29, 1894.
Children: Verla Agnes, Edith Irene. Golda Nenid, and Daisie Evelyn.

After Alice's death in 1929, James married her sister, Lillie Ellen (Williams) Rubison who had divorced her husband, Joseph Rubinson, in 1925.

James Bentley Rose, 82, died at 5 pm yesterday after an extended illness at 636 E. Cherry, Springfield.
He was born near Republic but had resided in Laclede County most of his life. He was a charter member of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Lebanon.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Tom Caffey, Mrs. Fate Montgomery, Mrs. Richard Chapman, and Mrs. Ben Hunt, all of Springfield; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Nora Isley, and Mrs. Opal Brakebill; two stepsons, Henry and Homer Rubison; two brothers, Emmett of Lebanon and Dee of Mountain Grove; and one sister, Mrs. Will Redfearn, of Springfield.
