Mrs. Arena Peter, old and highly respected lady of the Mackville neighborhood died suddenly Wednesday afternoon October 1st of hemorrhage of the lungs. Mrs. Peter was alone in her home when she died. She having been attending to her household duties and had just finished serving dinner to a number of work hands on her farm. Rev. Hobbs and Mrs. Oceneth Peter called at the house at about three o'clock in the afternoon and found the old lady lying dead on the floor of her room. The deceased was a woman of character and enjoyed the esteem of friends and acquaintances. She was possessed of a large estate and managed her own business affairs in a capable manner. She was the widow of Dr. Hartford Peter and was 67 years of age. Mr. J.B. Peter the well known livestock man is her only living child. Her other two children who are now dead were Mrs. Sallie Yankey and Mr. Frank Peter who died about twelve years ago leaving a son and a widow who is the Mrs. Henry Brown of Lebanon. Mrs. Peter was a Miss Shewmaker daughter of Uriah Shewmaker. The funeral services were preached by Rev. W. F. Vaughn of Harrodsburg at the Methodist Church at Mackville. The interment was at Peter's Cemetery near the latter town.
