Derek is survived by his son, Skyler; Skyler's step brothers, Damien, Marcus and Tomas. He was preceded in death by the childrens' mother, Jasmine on February 18, 2008. The children are being cared for by Jasmine's mother and family.

A Rosary will take place at 10:00 A.M. Monday, May 18, 2009 at St. Rita's Catholic Church in Show Low with Mass beginning at 10:30. Interment will be in the Show Low Cemetery.
