Dan Bowman, 70, Independence, died Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Lexington Care Center, Lexington. Private graveside services were held Monday, June 29, 2009, in Wakenda Cemetery, north of Hardin, with Rev. Chris Cox officiating. Services were under the direction of Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond.

Daniel Carson was born November 27, 1938, in Rockingham, son of Gene and Hazel (Falls) Bowman. Dan graduated from Stet High School and received his Doctorate of Education from the University of Missouri in 1977. He was a teacher, principal and superintendent of schools in Browning; Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Quinby, Iowa. He was a member of many educational organizations and of Rockingham Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include one sister, Donna Schannuth and husband, Hardin; one nephew; one niece and her husband; and a great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his infant twin brother, Donald Curtis Bowman.
