"Cumberland Press" Cumberland, Maryland, 27 Oct 1914":
Patrick Stakem, and aged and respected citizen of Lonaconing, died at his home at that place at 9:45 last night, after an illness extending over two years, aged 69.

Mr. Stakem was born in Cunary, County Wicklow, Ireland and was baptized in the Catholic Church at Barnbarry. Mr. Stakem left Ireland in April 1868 and came directly to Ocean, this county, arriving there in May of the same year.

In February 1873 he married Miss Ester Cavanaugh, daughter of Patrick Cavanaugh, then residing on a farm near Barton. Fourteen children were born to them. Mr. Stakem died at his home on St. Mary's Terrace, Lonaconing, in the house in which he had lived for over 40 years. He was a miner by occupation until he retired about twelve years ago. For the past two years he had been in poor health.

The surviving children are: James J. Stakem, living in the house adjoining his father; Patrick Stakem, Lonaconing; Richard F. Stakem, Lonaconing; John C. Stakem, Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Patrick McDonough, Mrs. William J. Broderick, and Isaac, Daniel J., Winifred, Sarah A., Veronica and Edward Stakem, at home.

Mr. Stakem is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Daniel and James, of Midland, and Mrs. Elizabeth Byrnes, of Ocean, and 23 grandchildren. Mrs. Stakem also survives.

Mr. Stakem was a charter member of Division No. 1 Ancient Order of Hibernians, of Lonaconing, who will attend the funeral which will be held Thursday morning at 9 o'clock from St. Mary's Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery."
