Nancy was born in Ohio in 1821 to Henry Allen and Jane Maple Brown. She was the oldest of ten children. Her siblings were: James, Rose Ann, George Washington, Margaret Jane, Isabelle, Ezekiel E, Catherine Lucetta, Sarah and Alice Louise.
She became the second wife of Joshua Ewing Aug. 24,1848 in Jefferson County, Ohio. His first wife, Jane, died at the birth of their 9th child. (Nancy's sister Rose Ann married Joshua's brother Elias in 1847). In 1850 they were living in Saline, Jefferson County, Ohio.
Nancy and Joshua had ten children: William, Susan, Edwin Oliver, Henry M, Myron Chase, Nancy E, Frances, Abraham Lincoln, Kesiah Belle (Kizzie) and Mary Ann.
In the 1860's they moved from Ohio to Wisconsin and settled in section 23 Sylvan Township in Richland County. The family was engaged in farming.
After Joshua's death in in 1879, Nancy's oldest son William took over the management of the farm. Nancy died at the family homestead on Friday, April 28, 1910 at 9 pm. She was 89 years and 29 days old.
Funeral services were held from the home on Saturday, April 29. She is buried next to Joshua on the Ewing private burial plot on the homestead. The cemetery is tucked away high on a hill in a grove of hardwoods overlooking the valley. There are 8 marked burials from 1862 to 1932, with Nancy's and Joshua's bachelor son, William being the last in March, 1932.
