Mattie Ellen Busby Stewart, Jewett's oldest resident, died Tuesday, January 27, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert (Maxine) Patton, at the age of 100 years and six months. She was born July 31, 1875, in Archer Township, a daughter of the late Martin Van Buren Busby and Belinda Healea Busby, and was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. She was a life long resident of Jewett.

She was married on June 12, 1895 to Irvin Stewart, who died January 16, 1955. A member of the United Mehtodist Church in Jewett, she was a faithful member who attended until about four years ago, when he health prevented her attendance.

Survivors, in addition to her daughter Maxine, include four sons: Harry of Jewett, Byron of Canton, Clyde of Newcomerstown, and Lawrence of Cadiz. Another daughter, June Patton, is deceased. Other survivors include 15 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be from the Telfer Funeral Home in Jewett, Friday, January 30 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. R. L. Patterson officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Jewett.

Calling hours are today (Thursday) at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
